Touching Down in the green valley of San Pedro Sula, we'll sit down and enjoy lunch as we review our objectives for the trip and get to know one another. Leaving San Pedro Sula, we'll head west until we reach the small town Copan Ruinas.
Named after the ancient Mayan Ruins, this cobblestone lined village lies just a few miles east from the Guatemalan border. This mountainous region is scattered with reminders of ancient society. Over the next 7 days you'll spend your days working with several nearby indigenous villages on school improvements, building water filtration systems and assisting the communities with horticulture and permaculture projects. We'll also have the opportunity to walk in the footsteps of the ancient Mayans while we explore the surrounding mountains, natural hot springs and awe-inspiring ruins that once housed this ancient civilization. Stepping further into rural Honduras, we'll make our way to Carrizalito.

A small village in the western mountains, Carrizalito encompasses the culture and spirit of this captivating country. Here you'll work side-by-side with the community to provide the tools that increase the health, education, and livelihood of the village. You'll work with villagers to introduce sustainable agriculture practices (reforestation, soil enrichment, etc), build composting latrines, improve the local school and educate the community on health standards. With an incredible sense of the people that inhabit this land, we'll leave the mountains and head to the coast to explore the other natural wonders Honduras has to offer.

Once we've reached the northern coast, we'll board a boat to the small island of Utila, your home for the next 7 days. Just 18 miles off mainland, this tiny island is host to the second largest reef in the world. You will spend your days here diving (you'll earn your PADI certification on this trip or add another certification if you are already PADI certified), exploring ancient caves and participating in reef conservation. Known for its diverse population of marine life, visitors to Utila often encounter Whale Shark, Sea Turtles and Giant Lobsters. We end our journey with a final Honduran meal as we reflect on our journey while knowing we've made a lasting change for the communities we've encountered. |
