Orientation begins in Managua, the capital city of Nicaragua. We'll spend time getting to know one another and review the objectives for the trip. From Managua we'll make our way to San Jorge where we'll catch the ferry across Lake Nicaragua to Isla de Omatepe (the Island of Omatepe).

Once we have arrived to the Island we'll make our way to Finca Magdalena, a fair trade coffee producer where we'll spend the next three days learning about environmentally and economically sustainable coffee production, explore the nearby volcanoes and waterfalls, swim in the lakes, kayak in the rivers and zip-line the forest canopy.

Making our way back across the lake, we'll head to La Pacaya, a small agrarian village outside of Estelí. We'll spend the next 4 days here living among a people who till the earth to provide for their families and in spite of their lack of modern conveniences have a zest for life and family unmatched in most of the world. We will work side by side our host families planting trees, developing access to clean water, improving sanitation and teaching english.

Leaving La Pacaya with a new sense of community and the world outside our own borders, we wave goodbye to our new lifelong friends and head to San Juan del sur, a small town nestled in a crescent shaped bay, on the border with Costa Rica. San Juan del sur is home to exceptional hidden beaches, world class surf and breathtaking views. Over the next 3 days you'll surf the beaches, explore the reefs, visit turtle habitats and soak in the tropics.

With three days left in your trip we head towards Managua ending up at Laguna de Apoyo, a crater lake situated on the Mombacho Volcano nature preserve. Two days of swimming and kayaking around the lake coupled with a visit to a nearby school and health clinic for disadvantaged communities will round out our journey in Nicaragua and send us home more wise of the world and knowing we've made a lasting change for the communities we've encountered.
