Arriving in Managua, we make our way south to the island of Ometepe on Lake Nicaragua. The Island is home to lush forests, stunning views from atop its volanoes and farming cooperatives devoted to environmental sustainability.

We'll stay with local families while we receive Spanish lanaguage training, explore the natural wonders of the island and work together with local communities to improve health and sanitation. Leaving the island we'll head north to the village of La Pacaya. This small agrarian village has no running water or electricity and sits amid the pine forests in the green mountains of Nicaragua.

Here we'll build upon the skills we developed in Ometepe to increase the health, eduucation, and livelihoodof th evillage. We'll work with members of the community to improve sustainable darming, install appropriate technologies and educate the community concerning health standards and simple skills. In return, the villagers will share their unique lifestyle which emphasizes hard work and qulaity family time over material things.

After learning the importance of "siestas", we'll embark on the last leg of our journey. Heading towards the pacific coast, we'll enjoy sun-baked days on pristine beaches as Nicaraguan surfing instructors teach us how to catch some waves. With conservation and wildlife protection being the theme for our last few days in Nicaragua, we'll head to Laguna de Apoyo, a crater lake nestled in a dormant volcano and stay at the Monkey Hut Lodge. At the lodge and in the surrounding parks, we'll enjoy the sun and water, zip-line across the Mombacho Cloud Forest, top the Masaya Volcano on foot, desend into its caves below and enjoy the sites and sounds of the Howler and White-faced Capuchin Monkeys. Lastly, we'll visit Historic Granada and the local artisans market at Masaya to grab a couple of 'recuerdos' before heading to Managua where our plane awaits us to head home.
